Some of the temples found on Malta are some of the earliest built constructions in the world. They date back as far as 3500 - 2500 BC. Maltese folklore suggests that these temples were all built by giants because of their size and the period of time in which they were built.
There are over fifty known temples found on the island of Malta. Some of the temples are essentially calendars that make use of the summer and winter solstice as well as the spring and fall equinox. The temple known as the Mnajdra temple has a slit above different chambers which allows light to pas through on these specific days in order to produce and image. These temples are evidence that people of this prehistoric time had an enough understanding of the sun to use it to create a calendar.
